Project “Children Along the river”
Project “Children Along the river”
The Ruse branch of the Future for Bulgaria Foundation implemented a project called “Children Along the River” with duration of 9 months (from January to September 2003), financed under the PHARE Program for Trans-border Cooperation Between Bulgaria and Romania. The partners of the project were the Municipality Children’s Center for Culture and Art in Ruse and the Youth Association “Ion Vinea” from Giurgiu. The Foundation launched an international children’s painting competition on the topic “The River” in the municipalities of Ruse and Giurgiu .The prizes for the winners of the competition from the two municipalities were awarded by an expert committee. These winners together with the representatives of the art schools at the Municipality Children’s Center for Culture and Art in Ruse and the Youth Association “Ion Vinea” from Giurgiu (altogether 20 children) participated in two planned international en plein air courses – one for researching the cultural and historical heritage of Ruse and Giurgiu, and the other one which was carried out during a boat trip along the Danube river. The paintings from the three en plein air courses and from the competition were exhibited at a Bulgarian-Romanian exhibition “Culture and Ecology” in the two Danube towns. The young artists also drafted a Children’s Ecomap of the Danube River, which was printed in Bulgarian and Romanian language in 1000 copies and distributed in the schools and children’s centers of the border regions. The project was completed with the musical performance “Good Neighbours” in Ruse with the participation of group and individual performers from the Municipality Children’s Center for Culture and Art in Ruse and the Youth Association “Ion Vinea” from Giurgiu and of the children’s favourite singers who were invited by the organizers.
