Educational Program

Olympiads

The Future for Bulgaria Foundation pays close attention to the achievements of the Bulgarian children in the fields of mathematics and natural sciences. It promotes the development of their capacities by maintaining direct contact with them, by financially supporting their performances and by rewarding the best participants.
Within four years (from 1998 to 2001) The Foundation provided for the participation of the Bulgarian National Mathematics Team in the international Olympiads, and since 2000, it has been supporting our Informatics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology Teams. We also attracted as a partner of this initiative the State Agency for Youth and Sport, which supplied the children with special equipment decorated with the national symbols of Bulgaria. The Foundation provided for the participation of: The National Mathematics Team in the Balkan Competition held in 1998 in Cyprus; the Balkan Competition held in 1999 in Ohrid; the Balkan Competition held in 2000 in Kishinev, Moldova; 39-th International Olympiad in Taipei, Thailand; 40-th International Olympiad in Bucharest, Romania; the International Competition in Beijing; 41-th International Olympiad in Pey Jan in South Korea; the National Chemistry Team in the 32-nd International Olympiad in Copenhagen, Denmark; the National Biology Team in the 2-nd International Olympiad in Antalya, Turkey; the National Informatics Team in the International Olympiad in Beijing; the national stages of the Olympiads in 1999 and 2000 in Bulgarian language and literature, mathematics, physics, informatics, biology and chemistry.

Summer and winter camps for talented children

The project was implemented by the Future for Bulgaria Foundation in partnership with European House – Denmark, the Bulgarian Institute for Interpersonal Relations, the Association for Family Planning and Sexual Health, the Bulgarian Association of Social Workers, the European Law Association and the Youth Center for Initiatives and Consultancy with the financial support of the PHARE LIEN Programme of the European Union. Within 2 years (2000–2002), over 20 programs and initiatives were implemented which provoked the active participation of the young people with deviant behavior in Boychinovci, the managers and staff of the reformatory, as well as many experts in child criminality from Sofia, Plovdiv, Burgas and Ruse. Among the publications on the project are 6 issues of the Reform Bulletin, the brochures “Boychin”, “Between Ourselves” and “Child Criminality – A Manageable Risk”.

Visit of the National mathematics Team of China

From 16 to 22 May 2001 at the invitation of the Mathematics Union in Bulgaria and the Future for Bulgaria Foundation, a delegation of six students and two teachers from the National High School Mathematics Team of China visited Sofia. The guests had a meeting with the leaders of the Mathematics Union, with their peers from our national team and with the students from the National High School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences “Acad. L. Chakalov” in Sofia and participated in the national stage of the Bulgarian mathematics Olympiad.

Computer classes

Due to the necessity of computer and internet classes in the Bulgarian schools, the Foundation initiated the idea “Computer Classes” and in 2002 managed to equip specialized computer halls with 10 new computers, 2 printers and an internet connection in three Bulgarian schools – “Vasil Levski” in Velingrad, “Sv. Sv. Kiril I Metodiy” in the village of Sarnitsa and the High School of Mathematics “Baba Tonka” in Ruse. Thus, the number of computer classes under the program of the Foundation became 30, excluding the computer configurations with product “Classical French Literature 16-th – 19-th Century under the project “Virtual Library” (supported by the French Association “Enterprises and People” and UNESCO) in the French Language High Schools in Sofia, Plovdiv, Veliko Tarnovo and Stara Zagora, in the libraries of the French Philology specialties in the universities of Sofia, Veliko Tarnovo and Plovdiv and in the National Library “Sv.
